Courtland Sutton will miss the remainder of the season due to an ACL tear. For the folks counting along at home that’s now five of the Broncos starters with injuries. The number 1 receiver is out for the year, star pass rusher Von Miller likely done for the year, running back 1b Phillip Lindsay sidelined, starting cornerback A.J. Bouye sidelined, and second year quarterback of the future Drew Lock our for several weeks. To say these injuries have been devastating for the Broncos doesn’t even do it justice.
The Broncos were a favorite for a wild card spot this year amongst analysts, with some even picking them to win the AFC West. Now, it’s looking bleak in Broncos Country. The team is off to a 0-2 start, won’t have their number one receiver and will be starting Jeff Driskel at QB while Drew Lock recovers from his own injury. At least hopeful franchise quarterback Drew Lock will be able to play again this year, the same can’t be said for Sutton.
Yesterday in the NFL looked like the Red Wedding. Everyone was going down. The 49ers lost four starters, the Cowboys lost four players, Saquon tore his ACL, McCaffery suffered a high ankle sprain, the list just kept going. Almost 50 players got injured in the first 10 games on Sunday and only 1/5 of them were able to return. The NFL Players Association is going to have a long talk about how important preseason games and extended training camps are to injury prevention this offseason.
