Denver Broncos lose Von Miller for the season

Broncos’ OLB Von Miller injured a tendon in his ankle on the last play of practice today, and he is expected to need surgery that is likely to end his season, league source tells ESPN. — Adam Schefter (@AdamSchefter) September 9, 2020

This is the absolute worst possible thing I could have imagined happening to the Broncos season. Losing Von Miller before the season even started is devastating. The Broncos are already unbelievably thin at the linebacker position outside of Von Miller and Bradley Chubb, and Chubb is coming off his own injury from last year.

An added element with Von Miller’s injury is the fact that the #broncos believe Bradley Chubb, who's coming off an ACL injury, is going to continue to take some time to get to 100%. They don’t know exactly how long into the season that’ll take. He’ll likely be on a pitch count — James Palmer (@JamesPalmerTV) September 9, 2020

Von is done for the season, and Chubb will be on a pitch count. The Broncos defense is now relying on Justin Simmons and, checks notes, Josey Jewell, Alexander Johnson and Bryce Callahan. The backups are going to have to step up big this year. It’s a next man up mentality, but damn losing Von Miller for the season really hurts. Hopefully Chubb can get to 100% soon because the defense will need all the help it can get.

It would be great if Drew Lock and the offense can score enough points to make it easy for their defense. Otherwise it could be a real sad season in Denver. Won’t feel the same without watching Von terrorized opposing quarterbacks.
