Denver Broncos trade 2020 4th round pick to Jaguars in exchange for A.J. Bouye
The trade can’t be processed until the new NFL season officially starts in March 18th but for all intents and purposes A.J. Bouye is a Denver Bronco.
The Broncos give up a fourth round pick for the once second team all pro corner back. Over the past two years Bouye’s play has been inconsistent, but in 2017 the guy was a stud. He recorded 6 interceptions and 18 pass breakups that year. That performance earned him 2nd Team All-Pro honors as well as a trip to the Pro Bowl.
In an off season where the Broncos desperately need help at the cornerback position they go out of there way to bolster the roster early. Chris Harris Jr. is set to become a free agent and the other corners on the roster we’re shaky at best last season.
Gut reaction tells me this is a good move for the Broncos. Giving up a fourth round draft pick for a position where the depth is thin on the roster is a good deal. The bad of the deal is Bouye’s cap hit for 2020. He is due to make $13 million and will count against the cap at $15.5 million. Fairly large contract to take on for a team that still needs to re-sign several key players including Derek Wolfe.
Only time will tell if this is a good trade or not. Bouye has stated already that he’s excited to come to Denver and that he likes how the defense plays a corner friendly system. Who knows, maybe Bouye will thrive under Vic Fangio and his defense and play at his 2017 level. Bouye could also fall flat like some of the other players the Broncos have traded for in the past.
