#NHLBruins goalie Tuukka Rask has opted out of the NHL's Return to Play: pic.twitter.com/r3c7wjaTwR — Boston Bruins (@NHLBruins) August 15, 2020
What a bombshell to wake up to if you’re a Bruins fan. Veniza Trophy finalist Tuukka Rask has decided to leave the bubble after citing family concerns. There are bigger things than hockey in this world and family is clearly one of them for Rask.
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, I’m not going to rip on a superstar athlete for opting out of the season over health and family concerns. It’s not a good look. I can’t do what he does. There are NHL goalies that can’t do what Rask does game after game. He’s going to be sorely missed for the Bruins going forward. Bruins are in a tied series against the Carolina Hurricanes. Rask was supposed to suit up and be in net for the Bruins today. Instead he decided to pack his bag and leave the Stanley Cup Survivor Playoffs.
Tuukka. You’ve decided to leave the bubble. Take your torch and go
I will say this though. It’s a pretty crappy time for Tuukka Rask to opt out. They’re in the middle of a series that they very well could win. Sure the Bruins have only won 1 of 5 games they’ve played so far but they are still in this best of 7 series against the Hurricanes. Perhaps the Presidents Cup Curse has hit the Bruins harder than anyone anticipated. First they can’t win a single game in the Round Robin so that they can hold on to their number one seed and now their star goalie opts out part way through a series. Boston fans must be miserable.
Might be a good thing the Bruins aren’t the first seed. The Flyers (1st Seed) got absolutely bodied by the Canadiens (8th Seed) in their last game losing 5-0. That Canadiens team is going to be dangerous if they pull the upset agains the Flyers.
